You know what they say, "Find a penny pick it up. All day long you'll have good luck." Luck can't always be good; sometimes luck can get you down. One time I found a penny then two seconds later I lost it. Sometimes luck can be great because one time I had a four leaf clover and my dad didn't have to move to Florida. I think the best kind of luck is when you spend time with your family and don't have any problems with them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reading By: Amelia Reading sometimes makes me feel scared. One time I was reading a book called Scary Stories and a lot of horrible things happened to people in the book. I was scared. Reading also gets me in trouble sometimes because I stay up too late reading. I guess reading a good book is worth it though. When you read you should always have a light on because it can hurt your eyes when you read in the dark. Sometimes I try getting in the book by pretending I am a person in the book. When you want to get caught up in a good book, make sure you don't try to do it while watching TV because you can't stay focused on two things. Make sure you don't sit next to a friend you know you are going to talk to, and don't try to read at a party unless it is a quiet party. Also, don't read during math or any other school activity. If you have a book that needs to be returned to the library tomorrow, make sure you spend a little extra time reading so you don't have to pay the due. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Love People fall in love because they look at each other a lot. You can tell they are in love because they do goo-goo eyes. If you want someone to fall in love with you, give them flowers. My perfect date would be at a fancy restaurant. I'd wear blue jeans and a t-shirt. If my date made me mad, I'd say, "Step off!" When I'm 35, I will get married in a church to a nice and funny person. I'll make love last by always being nice. If I had a Valentine, I would give them a teddy bear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kindness By: Amelia I think being kind is like having friends that always stick with you. If you are kind other people will be kind to you. Plus it makes you feel good and it makes other people feel good. When you are kind you make new friends. When you are kind to other people you are a roll model to them. You should also be kind to animals. It will make them feel good. When you are grumpy to someone they will be grumpy to another person. When someone bullies you it makes you feel bad. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Wrong Day By: Amelia It all started last week when Ian, my insignificant brother was watching a show called How to Turn Your Little Sister into a Snowman. Right when he was watching the show, "Bip, Bop, Pow!" he turned me into a snowman. Unfortunately, I hated being a snowman. "Help!" I said in my mind as I bopped Ian on the head for turning me into a snowman! Everybody was thinking we were crazy. I knew why he did it. I broke all of his CD's because I like making him mad. I put slush down his pants to make him scream like a girl! I made his girlfriend break up with him because I told her he shoves every piece of food he sees. I wanted him to turn me back so I promised him I wouldn't go into his room again. I told him I loved him and I wouldn't bother him ever again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If You Give a Beaver a Burrito By: Amelia If you give a beaver a burrito, he'll probably ask for some water. When he drinks the water, he'll probably have to go to the bathroom. While he's in the bathroom, he'll notice that he needs to brush his teeth. When he's finished brushing his teeth, he'll want you to check them. While he watches you check his teeth, it will remind him of home. So, he'll want to visit his family. On the trip to visit his family, he'll ask you to read to him. While you are reading, he will look at the writing in the book. Then, he'll want to write about his trip. While he writes about his trip, he'll get car sick. So, you'll have to stop at a gas place. While he's in the gas place, he'll see some water. So, chances are... he will ask you for a burrito! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In chilly Canada, chunky children listen to Coldplay after celebrating Christmas in Central Park. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At twelve o'clock, the untidy fleshy monster ran athletically into the mist. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Author in Autumn By: Amelia  This year's Author in Autumn was Helen Lester. She has written many books. She has five books about Tacky the Penguin. She taught us that a book doesn't start out right side up. She brought in a laminated piece of work called a "Big Sheet." A big sheet has all of the book pages and pictures scrambled up on one big sheet of paper.  She told us that she used to write backwards when she was a kid and her teacher had to put a mirror in front of her paper. It was very hard for Helen to write sometimes.  In Author, a True Story, Helen told that she used to teach second grade. She said a girl told her she should write a children's book, so she did. The first time she tried, the publishers rejected her book. The second time she wrote a book, they still rejected her work! The third time, Helen got approved and she has been writing ever since. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do you know what elephants do when no one is looking? People think that elephants just lay around all day. But when no one is looking&ldots; They hop up and down. Elephants like to have fast running races. They also skip slowly. They give each other make-overs. They make water parks out of rocks. Elephants play in the flowers. They play Hide and Go Seek. They like to have tea parties. They play Scrabble. But when anyone is looking&ldots; elephants just lay around. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What I Think About Third Grade I think third grade is awesome. I like how we get a prize if we stay on green all week or all month. If we stay on green all month we get big prizes like a pencil case. If we stay on green all week we get a candy prize. If we don't do our homework we have to flip our card. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Iggy We have a pet iguana in our classroom. His name is Iggy. Iggy mostly likes to climb and sleep. He has a very big cage. Iggy also has sharp claws. He has lights over his cage so it feels like a desert. Iggy has a sign on his cage that says,  "Hi! My name is iggy and I am an iguana. Please don't touch me because I have sharp claws." But we got to touch his nose anyway. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Science I learned that atoms are in everything you can think of. I also learned that sound waves push out. When you go into a cave sound will echo back to you. If you have a special mic you can hear sounds that are far away or very small. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Talent My talent is playing the guitar. My sister, Angelica, teaches me. She is very nice and kind of mean. That's a sister's job I guess. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Writing You could say I am a good writer. I like to write about problems then after I'm done, I show my parents so they can help out. I like to write at night. I also like to write about Calvin and Hobbes. I don't really like to share my writing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reading I like to read Calvin and Hobbes. Those are the kind of books about a boy and his stuffed tiger. My favorite time to write is at night. My favorite author is David Shannon. I like to read long books like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What Elephants Do When No One is Looking Do you know what elephants do when no one is looking?
