Leprechaun Luck

By: Julie

Squeak! A mouse just tiptoed away with ten of my dollars. That doesn't surprise me at all. You see, I've been having bad luck keeping my money for a long time now. Actually, I've been having bad luck with many things. I've been having such a hard time getting places. When I get to places I'm often late. My mom just told me to clean my room. Yikes! So many unpleasant jobs to be done.

"Mom, "I grumbled, "I'm going for a walk." Maybe that will get me away from all of this bad luck. I began trudging down the path. A little time had passed when I saw a hole by the sidewalk. I sneaked over and peeked in.

"Hey! Can't a leprechaun have some privacy?" yelled an angry voice.

"A leprechaun?" I repeated.

"Oh shamrocks!" cried the voice. "You weren't supposed to know I was a leprechaun."

Slowly a little woman popped out of the hole. She was wearing a dark green dress. Over the dress she wore a knitted light green sweater with copper buttons in the shape of pots of gold. She was wearing black pointy shoes. Her hair was as orange as a pumpkin, and her eyes were as green as emeralds. She had her hair in one braid.

"My name is Lawanda," she put in still shaking. "Look, if you promise you won't tell a soul about this you will receive gifts."

"I promise," I replied.

From the leprechaun I got a jar that every time I opened it there were five $100 bills inside. I also got a chair that takes me anywhere in five minutes. All I do is say where I want to go. The last but not least was a great ghost. When I don't want to do something, the ghost will.

I am loving my life with the help of these items. No longer have I been short on money. My chair has made me so happy. I'm always the first one at school. Great ghost is the best! I think he's cleaning my room right now. I haven't told Lawanda's secret and I never will.

Luck

By: Julie

Good luck means good things happen to you, for example: If you wanted a Christmas present and you get it, that is good luck. Good luck makes me overjoyed. Some people say that a four leaf clover is good luck. When I get lucky I feel grateful. People keep lucky things to bring them good luck. I have a lucky ring. Every time I wear it I have good luck.

There is bad luck too. That is when things you don't want to happen, well they happen. Some things people think are bad luck are walking under a ladder, crossing a black cat on Halloween, and breaking a mirror. I don't believe in things like that.

I don't think there's an explanation why luck happens. If you get bad luck don't get mad. Good luck is a miracle. Bad luck is a disaster. Luck is luck and you can't change that.

I usually have good luck, do you?

Great Books

By: Julie

One day a book made me not listen to my dad. He asked me if I wanted a smoothie or milk to drink. Because I was reading an amazing and exciting story, I didn't hear him. The book was called, Hank the Cowdog, That's a Dog's Life. My dad, not knowing why I didn't answer, came upstairs. He saw me sprawled out on his bed and knew I was into a good book.

On Thursday, I was reading Changes for Molly and my teacher asked me to stop for a minute. I didn't want to stop, but I put my book down. Then she told the class about our assignment. The assignment was writing this paper, so I was excited!

When books are exciting I seem to go into the setting. Sometimes I want to give the characters advice, but they never listen! When books are sad, I feel sad along with the characters. When books are happy, I'm happy too.

When I read a good book I never want to stop until I've finished. Sometimes I tell myself that I'm going to stop after I finish the chapter I'm reading, but I don't. Good books make you want to read forever. Sometimes I even want to write another book for the series I'm reading.

I love to write stories. I want to be an author when I grow up. Reading is great and I love reading!

Movie Review

By: Julie

I saw the Chronicles of Narnia movie. It was awesome. The director must have been really creative.

There are four kids in the movie. The oldest kids are Peter and Susan. The younger kids are Edmant and Lucy. There is a war going on where they live. The kids get on a train to move away from the war. When they arrive at their new home, they find their new home to be boring.

Lucy, the youngest asks if they can play “Hide and Seek”. Frantically looking for a hiding spot, Lucy sees a huge wardrobe. Quickly, she hides within the wardrobe. Pushing her way behind coats, she steps into snow. Whirling around in surprise, a snow covered forest unfolds before her. Cautiously Lucy steps out of the wardrobe into Narnia.

When she returns home nobody believes her. One day the kids are playing catch and their ball breaks a window. They bolt inside and run into the wardrobe. When they see Narnia, they are as surprised as Lucy was. They meet a talking beaver who tell them about a prophecy. If two daughters of Eve and two sons of Adam sit on four thrones all evil will be destroyed. Soon news gets out about the humans and a war begins. Finally the good side wins.

Love

When people are in love they stare at each other.

You have to look good and be smart to get someone to fall in love with you.

My perfect date would be to go to a concert. I'd wear a top and a skirt. If I got mad at my date, I would tell him I had to be home early.

When I'm 19 or older, I'd like to get married at a church. I want to marry someone who is rich, handsome, and loves animals.

If I had a Valentine, I would give them candy.

Kindness Works

By: Julie

It's important to be kind to people because it makes you feel good. Some other reasons are that if you are mean to someone there are consequences. You might make someone feel bad, and you will feel guilty later.

If you are nice, you can make new friends. Usually when people are upset they make fun of people because they are grouchy. It is good to be nice because nobody wants to be friends with someone that's not nice.

One summer I went to a camp. At lunch we sat on fold out chairs. When lunch was over we had to fold up the chairs and put them in a corner. There was a smaller girl in camp and she was having trouble carrying her chair. I helped her by grabbing the other end of the chair. After lunch we had arts and crafts. We were making a bead lizard and I didn't understand one step! The girl I'd helped at lunch helped me. I made a new friend.

Remember, it feels good to help others.

The Snow Girl Curse

By: Julie

If I told you what happened this winter you will never believe me. My brother, David, was up to evil so he deserved something awful. So off I went to the practical joke store. At the store, I bought a box of fake jumping snakes, a bottle of fake slime, and some pink spray paint.

Spray, went the spray paint. Ha, Ha, Ha! You'll never guess what I did. I felt mischievous so I painted David pink while he was asleep! The next morning I couldn't help but to smile. When he turned around, I tried to wash the evil smirk off my face but nuts, it was not my lucky day. David caught me red handed. I could tell he was thinking, "She did it!"

All I thought was, "Who cares?" There was nothing he could do about it, or so I thought.

The very next day, I poured green slime on his bed. When he went to bed, David got it all down his back. I laughed and laughed. When he looked at me I ran. I didn't think it was smart to pull anymore pranks. What should I do? I still had a box of face jumping snakes.

On Christmas Eve I snuck by the fireplace and stuffed David's stocking full of fake jumping snakes. I was about to leave the room when David said, "Oh no you don't!" I tried to run but before I could I heard, "Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!" I closed my eyes. I felt like I was in a whirlwind tornado.

The tornado stopped. I opened my eyes. When I saw where I was I sighed in relief. I was just outside my house. Because I had an itch, I reached up to scratch. I realized I was a snowman! Well, a snow girl.

I screamed for about ten minutes. After I stopped screaming, I calmed myself down. I thought David would turn me back in an hour or so. I was wrong. Weeks passed and David didn't even look at me.

Being a snow girl was not fun at all. I couldn't eat pizza or my head would melt. I couldn't go to school. So long perfect attendance record. I couldn't see my friends because they didn't know who I was. I couldn't even pet my dog.

One day the mean kids on the block, also known as the snowman bashers, came by. "We don't have time to get anymore snowmen today, but we will get that one tomorrow," they said pointing, I looked to see where they were pointing but I couldn't see anything. With fright, I realized they meant me. I had to get turned back into a kid and soon!

I waited for David to come outside. A half hour later, he did. When he came close enough I grabbed him by his hood. "David, you have to turn me back," I snapped firmly.

"Why?" he asked.

"Um, because if you do I'll make your bed for a week.." He did not look impressed. "I'll clean your room." Still nothing, I remembered there was a basketball game he wanted to watch but it started during my TV time. "I'll give you my TV time," I begged.

"Deal!"

With a quick flash of bright light, I was myself again. Because I was myself again, I played with my friends, ate pizza, and went to school. Life had couldn't have been better. Well, David could be a snowman, but we won't go there!

If You Give a Turkey a Taco

By: Julie

If you give a turkey a taco, he'll want some milk to wash it down.

When he drinks the milk, he will spill it and want a towel to clean it up with.

While he's cleaning up, he will notice that the stitches are coming out of the towel and he will want to fix it.

When he's sewing, he will prick his finger.

When he pricks his finger, he will ask for a bandaid.

While putting on the bandaid, he'll knock over a vase.

When the vase he knocks over breaks, he will have to buy a new one.

While he's at the store, he will see a toy truck and he will want to buy it.

After he gets home with his new truck, he will play with it.

While he's playing with his new truck, he will run into a box of dress up clothes.

So, he'll want to play dress up.

Pulling the clothes out of the box will make him tired.

So, he will lie down and start to snore.

When he wakes up, he will want to run around the yard.

Running around the yard will make him thirsty, so he will want some milk.

So, chances are&ldots;

he will probably want a taco.

Julie's Gross Big Brother

By: Julie

"Gross!" Julie shouted as her big brother picked his nose. Julie was so disgusted she almost sprinted around the house. Later, when Julie calmed down, she saw him picking his nose again. Quickly, Julie took a picture.

The next day she put the picture in the newspaper. David, Julie's brother, was so embarrassed that he jumped out of his pants! Click! Another picture for the newspaper!

When she got home from school, David was furious. He was so mad his face turned purple. Julie decided that the next time she sees her brother doing something gross, she will keep it to herself, maybe.

Type to Learn

Yesterday Mrs. Ritenour's class got to do Type to Learn. Type to Learn is a computer program that teaches kids to type correctly. There is a voice on the computer so you need headphones. First it told us where to put our fingers. The keys we used for that are called homerow keys. Then it told us which letters to type in. We did two lessons then we logged off.

Math About Me

Math About Me is where we drew a picture of ourself. After we drew the picture we wrote facts about us with numbers involved. For an example: What is your favorite TV channel? What is your address? Some kids wrote the number of teeth they've lost. Some kids also wrote their shoe size.

Sound

I learned that sound is made by vibrating atoms. Those vibrations are made by anything moving fast, up and down, or side to side. Sound travels in sound waves. Sound waves go through mediums. Mediums are anything that have atoms. Sounds is a kind of energy. Echo is when sound bounces off of something hard. The more power used to make the sound the more volume there is.

My Talent

I am good at art. I like all kinds of art. I like drawing the most. Art is fun because you can be creative and turn nothing into something. When you finish something nice you can be proud and say, "I did that." I do art whenever I can. I like to show my art. Art is a good way to express yourself. When I grow up I want to be an artist. I make pictures of a lot of things, mainly animals. Art is what I am good at.

The important thing about me is that I am me.

I am a good swimmer,

and I like to laugh, "hee-hee-hee",

and I am good at drawing.

But the most important thing about me is that I am me!
