Sometimes they are so interesting they take you into the story. Sometimes they are so sad that you want to get to a happy part so you don't stop reading. Once I was so happy about reading that I stayed up past 1:00 reading. I sometimes get so mad I shut my book. Wham! I loose my page. One book I read had pictures of bugs on the front. When I read it, it was about math! Then I noticed the bugs were on my sister's book cover, so the book really was a math book. Sometimes I think about a book so much I start yelling at it. When I go to sleep I dream about the far away places in my books and the friends there too. I love reading in the afternoon, but mostly I love reading behind my bed at night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Love You can tell when two people are in love because they are extra nice to each other. If you want someone to fall in love with you, care for them and kiss them. My perfect date would be at Dunlaevy's. I'd wear a dress. If I got mad at my date, I'd tell him he wasn't being himself. When I'm 29, I want to marry someone just like my dad. I will get married at my church and I'll make love last forever by caring for them a lot. If I had a Valentine, I would give them chocolate. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kindness is Important By: Lydia It is important to treat others kindly because if you don't you won't have any friends. If you don't have any friends you will be so lonesome you might not want to go to school. If you don't go to school you have to say you are sick. After a few days your mom will take you to the doctor's and the doctor will say there is nothing wrong. Because the doctor had to help you, he won't be able to help others who might be dying! It effects everyone in a way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Snow Disaster By: Lydia Monkmeyer Three months ago, I was playing on the computer when my sister, Anna, came over to check her email. I wouldn't let her because I was right in the middle of my favorite game. Then she missed her friends call because she was asking me if she could check her email. The next morning, I had to stay with Anna because my mom and dad were at a meeting, so we watched a movie. When I brought in the popcorn, I tripped on Anna's Coke and fell on her. She got so mad that she got out her science kit and made a potion to turn me into a snowman! I tried to get away but it was too late. I felt myself getting colder. All of a sudden I started melting. I hopped outside and my sister ran after me. She gave me some arms. She also gave me a nose, a mouth, and two eyes. I felt my body freezing. Finally, I was just a carrot, three balls of snow, and a couple of buttons. I needed to get back into a human girl. Just then, my mom walked out the door. She was breathless. She didn't know what to say so she just drove to work. She told everyone about what she had seen. After I stood there for a long time, my mom came home with everyone in the neighborhood. All of the people stared at me the rest of the day. Finally, a doctor broke the silence. He muttered, "Maybe she's dead!" There was a long silence then... "She's still breathing!" He tried giving me some medicine but I couldn't open my mouth. Then the blacksmith tried carving me into a girl but it just made me fall down, so they all went home feeling very sad. Just then Anna came home. She was looking very unhappy because she had been watching the whole time and she realized she had done wrong. When she looked at the ground trying to find me, all she found was a carrot, a few buttons, and some clumps of snow. "What have I done?" she wailed. She dashed inside to get her science kit. When she came back out, she was holding a bottle of black potion. She poured the whole bottle over me. It felt like I was on fire. I melted until I turned back into a girl. We hugged each other and celebrated. Anna was grounded for two weeks but every day of those two weeks she made me hot chocolate without even being asked! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If You Give a Leopard Some Lettuce By: Lydia If you give a leopard some lettuce, he'll probably want some carrots to put on it. When you give him some carrots, he'll probably want some Ranch dip. When you give him some dip, the green spots in the dip will make him think of a jungle swamp. Thinking of the swamp will make him want to visit the jungle. When he gets to the jungle, he'll probably want to go swimming. While he is swimming, he will notice the vines above him. Seeing the vines will make him want to swing. While swinging on the vines, he might see a hippo. He will want to ride the hippo. When he rides the hippo, he will want a blanket to wrap his wet body in. When you give him a blanket, he will notice it has some loose stitches. So he will ask you for a needle. When he uses the needle, he will prick his finger. Then he will want some ice for his finger. The ice will make him want something refreshing and cool. If he wants something refreshing and cool, chances are&ldots; he will want some lettuce. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alliteration The ratty Redwings' referee rapidly ran to Rome after a rotten ram raced to roll over him in a Ram's Horn restaurant. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sentence Expansion At midnight, the huge famous monster ran amazingly into the dark woods. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Third Grade It is very very fun because I get to see my friend and I like to read and I love technology. But I also like my teacher, Mrs. Ritenour. She's really nice and fun. I think third grade is awesome. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Science Center In our class science center there are a lot of cool things. I will tell you some of them. The first two are the chicken and alligator feet, They are hanging on rubber bands on the corner or the science center. Second are the shells. There are a lot of different kinds of shells. I can not list all of them but I will list one. Mrs. Ritenour has a perfect moon shell. Third is a crocodile head. It is very cool. It sits on the right side of the science center. We also have a lot of crystals and rocks. Some of the rocks have crystals inside of them. There are also iguana eggs and a snake skin. There's a turtle shell, a shark jaw, a star fish, and a bee hive. We have a turkey wing and a sea horse. The X-rays we have are of a hand, backbone, a pelvis, and a throat. We have a sunflower and some old wood. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Talents I am good at reading because I read every day at home and at school. I am also good at inventing stuff like drink holders. Right now my dad and I are making something that will bring drinks up from the down stairs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sound I learned that sounds can bounce off things like rubber bands. I also learned that sound can be very strange and funny. It is also kind of cool. I learned that dolphins can bounce sounds off of other fish so they will know what kind of fish are there and if there are any fish around at all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What Horses Do When No One is Looking Do you know what horses do when no one is looking? People think that horses just eat grass and run around all day. But when no one is looking... They go to school. Horses play soccer. Sometimes they do ballet. Horses do homework. They go to church. They like to sing. They eat sandwiches. They read books. Sometimes horses do math. They write stories. But when anyone one is looking... horses just eat grass and run around. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Writing I like to write at night. I like to write about trips or books. I like writing, do you also? I love sharing my writing with the class. It's so fun to do that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reading I like reading books by Madeline L'Engle. My favorite book in the whole world is A Wrinkle in Time. I love reading at the school library. I love reading. It is my favorite subject in school. I might start a book club tomorrow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Important By: Lydia The important thing about me is that I am me. I am a girl, and I go to school, and I'm an inventor and a good reader. But the most important thing about me is that I am me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
