For example I have a red ribbon with an ox on it that brings me good luck. Some people have good luck by getting good grades. Many people don't have good luck, but in the future you will have good luck. I know it. Sometimes people just get lucky by doing nothing. On St. Patrick's Day, if you find a four leaf clover you'll have good luck. I've never found one but who cares? There are other years. To some people you can catch a leprechaun and be lucky and rich. Have you ever caught a leprechaun? I haven't. Bad luck can happen to many people. I have had it happen many times. For example, falling into a lake could be bad luck. Well, most people think bad luck is easier to get than good luck. As you may know, people all over have had bad luck. On January 13th if you do something bad you will have bad luck all year because it is Friday the 13th. Luck has probably happened to everyone whether it's good or bad luck. Luck will happen to you. Luck is a great thing, to some people that is. My luck is really good, well some of the time. Luck is good! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Books! Books! Books! By: Megan Books make me feel excited. Good books make me feel comfortable and cozy. Sometimes I go into the book because it's so good. When I'm bored I read. Sometimes I even get hungry and want to eat the food in my books. Books are so wonderful that I have to bring one everywhere I go. Once I was reading a book when my mom called me and I couldn't put the book do. So I just walked out of the room with my book to go see what she wanted. When she was done talking, I went back to my room and read and read until the book was done. Then I picked up another book and read it for about 30 minutes because dinner was ready. After dinner, I read even more. I read until it was time for me to go to bed. As you can tell, I think books are super! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Love If you want someone to fall in love with you, you should give them candy and kisses. You can tell when two people are in love because they do most things together and they laugh with each other. If I was going on a date, I would wear a sparkly dress and go to Gurneys. If I decided I didn't like my date, I would tell him he looked ugly, run away, and never call him again! When I am 28, I want to get married in a church to a great husband, who loves kids, and has a computer job. I hope his name is Toby Keith. I will ask him to marry me by giving him cards and chocolate. If I had a Valentine, I would give them a card and chocolate. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Treat People Kindly By: Megan It is important to treat people kindly because it will make them feel good and make them say something nice back. You shouldn't make fun of someone because of their religion, color of skin, or their clothes. When you treat people kindly people will return the kindness back. Before you make fun of someone just think how you would like it if they made fun of you! When someone just keeps on bugging you, you should just ignore them and walk away. Example: If they say, "Hey, you look ugly," you should reply, "That's not nice," and walk away. When people treat you bad they are just grumpy, grouchy, or don't want to have fun. If you get mad, you might want to tell other people you feel mad or that you need a little bit of space, or a little bit of time alone. Then people won't be mean back and say they don't want to play with you because you said, "Please can I have a little time alone?" That's why you should treat people kindly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Magical Brother By: Megan Do you believe in magic? Well if you don't, you're wrong. Magic does exist. My brother, Brandon, turned me into a snow girl. One freezing morning, I was waking up when Brandon screamed, "I don't like you." So, I spanked him so hard he felt like a big rock had been dropped on his toe. Later that day, my mom bought chocolate ice cream at the store. I had some ice cream and I spilled some on Brandon's shirt on purpose. Then I went to the store and bought some pink hair spray. When I got home, my mom let me do Brandon's hair. I decided I was going to make his hair look like a girl's. I wrote, "I love my sister," on his head with the pink hair spray. When he saw his hair, he was so mad that he went and got his magic box. He made a potion and poured it into a magic wand. Then he said to me, "Girl who is mean be turned into something fast before you pull another trick on me!" I screamed, "Ahhhh!" and, poof, I was a snow girl. I walked into the living room and my family screamed, "What happened?" I told them everything. Then they called Brandon into the living room.. He whined, "I'm sorry," with a smirk on his face. "You'd better turn her back or else!" said Mom. "But I don't know how to make people into snowmen or snow girls," squawked Brandon. My life as a snow girl was terrible. I couldn't eat tacos with my family. I could only eat ice cream. I couldn't sleep in my cozy and warm bed. I was frozen solid. When I saw Brandon I told him I was sorry for doing all of those bad things. "Oh Brandon, please turn me back into a girl. I'm so sorry. I'll do your chores for a month. I won't bug you. I'll clean your room for a year," I cried. "Okay, okay, let me think of a way to turn you back," he answered. "If you don't turn me back, it won't be good. You won't have a little sister to do your chores when you're sick. I miss everything about being a kid. I miss not playing with my friends, not doing all the fun stuff that I used to do, and not being able to read," I pleaded. Brandon thought for a minute. "Oh yeah, I remember from a show I watched how to turn you back!" So he went to his room, got his potion, and said, "Girl who is nice, turn back!" The first time he tried, it didn't work. He tried again and again before it finally worked. I said, "I've learned not to fool you anymore." Then I walked into the living room and my family screamed, "Yeah!" I told them I'd never pull another trick again. I hope you believe in magic now and I hope you've learned that you should be nice! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If You Give a Rhinoceros a Raspberry By: Megan If you give a rhino a raspberry, she'll ask for a glass of water. After she drinks her water, she'll ask for more raspberries. After eating more raspberries, she'll get a tummy ache. Because she has a tummy ache, she'll ask for a pillow and blanket. When you give her a pillow and a blanket, she will ask you to read The Three Bears to her. While you are reading The Three Bears, she will tell you she wants to go to the forest. When you are in the forest, she'll want a flashlight so she won't be scared. When you give her a flashlight, she will want to tell ghost stories. Telling ghost stories will make her want to go home and watch a movie about ghosts. While she's watching the movie, she will want some crayons to draw a picture of a ghost family. While she's drawing, she'll get tired and want to sleep. So you'll get her a pillow and a blanket and she will fall fast asleep. When she wakes up from her nap, she will be thirsty and want some water. If she has some water, chances are... she'll want some raspberries to go with it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alliteration After their geometry lesson, gorgeous girl giraffes gamble at Great Lakes' Gambling House for green gold while listening to Greenday. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sentence Expansion At the crack of dawn, the atrocious heavy monster ran droopily down the crooked road. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pen Pals By: Megan Mrs. Ritenour's 3rd grade class has pen pals from Longview, Texas. Having a pen pal means you write to a friend from another school, state, or country. We get to write letters, ask questions, and send pictures to our buddies. Our pen pals are in Mrs. Chinn's class at Pine Tree Intermediate School. Mrs. Chinn is Mrs. Ritenour's best friend. We had a ton of fun writing to our pen pals. I think there are eleven girls and seven boys so some boys wrote to girls, but that was okay. We got the letters on October 27th. They told us what they were going to be for Halloween, what they have been doing at school, and what they like to do. We responded and told them all about us. We are sending our pictures with our letters. When we found that our letters from Mrs. Chinn's class flew here on a plane, we were excited. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Mrs. Ritenour, I think third grade is the best. I have learned so much about sound, writing, globes and three kinds of maps. You are extremely creative because you come up with cool ideas for projects. I really like Homeworkopoly. It's really fun. When you read books I think about what might happen next or who the characters are. You make me laugh a ton. Mrs. Ritenour you make AWESOME jokes! You can make hard or boring work turn fun or easy. I have never made a pumpkin when it's been that much fun. Morning meetings are fun because we tell how we feel and it can make you feel better. When we take spelling tests it's more fun because we are with a partner and we learn more about them. You pick out great jokes, especially food ones because they make me hungry. I think you are awesome! Megan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Science Mrs. Ritenour's class has been learning about sound in science. We use a ton of tools for science. We watched a movie about vibrations, sound waves, and echos. Some of the tools we use in our lessons are tuning forks, long gongs, drop chambers, washers, clothes line and a cup. We made up secret codes that I can't tell you about. We learned a lot about science. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If I Had to Teach My Class for a Day I would teach my class about the Constitution and how to write properly. My favorite thing to teach would be reading. We might play a game or two and we would study about math. I would make my class take a math test. I would talk about DEBUG. While they go to lunch and recess I would worry about lunch count. I would have to get my lesson plans ready then. When they got back, we would go to the restroom. Then we would go to the library. While they were gone, I would get science ready. After science, we would make a paper moraca and make music. Then we would write down homework and go home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What Monkeys Do When No One is Looking Do you know what monkeys do when no one is looking? People think that monkeys just climb around all day. But when no one is looking... They listen to music. Monkeys do math problems. They write a story. Monkeys might read magazines. They help charities. Sometimes monkeys go to school. Monkeys study about the Constitution. They might even go on a vacation. They like to do crafts. They like to play on the monkey bars. But when anyone is looking... monkeys just climb around. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Important By: Megan The important thing about me is that I am me. I am a soccer player, and a reader, and I like the library, and school and my family are important to me. But the most important thing about me is that I am me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
